Clean water – satisfied guests
Neglecting the issue of water risk management can have significant impacts on the health and well-being of guests and staff.
In recent years the public has become increasingly aware of the potential risk of biofilms with pathogenic bacteria. Hotels that emphasize the importance of maintaining the highest quality standards cannot afford the massive media exposure and subsequent loss of image and financial impact that follows a Legionella outbreak.
aquagroup supports hotels
aquagroup supports hotels in the quality assurance of their water to make the hotel accommodation a unique and safe experience for guests. This begins with an on-site inspection to identify weaknesses in the existing water system and the analysis of potential sources of risk.
Our solution offers risk mitigation by permanently removing biofilms and ensuring that the water quality is always high. Therefore it meets German drinking water standards.
Biofilm formation
Numerous microorganisms have the ability to produce biofilm. As a result, they survive in water distribution systems and protect each other there. They eventually become part of this biofilm and often show resistance to conventional approaches, such as thermal disinfection or traditional chemical solutions. The presence of biofilms is a favorable condition under which Legionella pneumophilia and Pseudomonas aeriginosa can grow. This represents a serious health risk. Factors contributing to water-based outbreaks include contaminated water, dead pipes and stagnation as well as poor design and construction of drinking water reservoirs, insufficient disinfection, etc.
Legionella in the shower
Our drinking water is not germ-free. Despite proper treatment, it still contains microorganisms: Mostly harmless water dwellers or bacteria and viruses. These have no health significance in the concentrations remaining after treatment. Nevertheless, there are germs, such as legionella, which can be quite harmful to health.
Legionella are transmitted by atomised, nebulised water. The droplets (aerosols) can spread in the air and be inhaled. Possible sources of infection include showers, whirlpools, humidifiers or water taps, as well as cooling towers. In rare cases, infection is possible when drinking water accidentally enters the lungs via the windpipe when swallowed.
Fighting the biofilm – a hopeless fight?
Legionella pneumophilia do not multiply in water that is < 20 °C cold. In countries with hot climates, however, the cold water inlet temperature is often above 25 °C. ideal for microbiological growth and biofilm formation. It is generally known that conventional solutions are relatively ineffective in removing biofilms.
Solution – fighting the cause, not the symptoms
NADES 2.0 is produced on site by electrolysis and does not lose its effectiveness if used promptly. It prevents or hinders the growth of microbiological activity in water. Continuous inoculation with NADES 2.0 destroys the extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) of the biofilm. This EPS layer protects the microorganisms present in the biofilm and facilitates the transport of nutrients. The control of the biofilm is one of the most important goals to ensure that the water provided to the guest is of the highest quality.
Expertise
In a study by the company Lagotec, biofilms were cultivated under real conditions and then treated with NADES 2.0. After the dosage of NADES 2.0, a clear reduction of the biofilm could be proven in contrast to the untreated approach.
